The backbone of the new building is comprised of cast-in-place concrete beams and joists with post-tensioning to support the massive weight of the book stacks. Large curtain walls with frit-patterned glass and punched windows in the long, slender building provide ample, natural light to all of the spaces inside. Modular brick paired with natural sandstone and limestone along with the decorative metal work provides a facade that will beckon students, faculty, and doctors for years to come. The light and airy interior is accented with bright colors, decorative millwork, integral color plaster walls, and complementary furnishing, While the new library boasts more than enough space to house the current collection of 271,812 volumes, it also contains state of the art computer work-stations and wireless technology as today's digital media continues to replace the print form of yesteryear's documents.
